Toys R Us employees are getting ready to move on from their jobs, all stores are expected to close by June 30th. 33-year employee Cheryl Claude of South River, New Jersey has never worked anywhere else.

“I spent every holiday, leaving my kids home for the holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, everything to be at work and give my one-hundred percent to get nothing is incredible.”

Other Toys R Us workers like Shkeanah Best are left with concerns.

The Student’s 2 Science Technology Center is outfitted with commercial grade STEM research instrumentation.  S2S President Paul Winslow hopes they’ll serve every age appropriate student in Newark schools.

“We will service every student in the district through the Virtual Laboratory Program from the 5th grade though the 12th grade,” said Winslow.  “With as many as eight to ten sessions per year.  Every two to three weeks, kids will be doing a hands-on experiment under out direction through the Virtual Laboratory Program.”

St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson implemented a program in 2016 that researches and uses certain pain management methods, as an alternative to prescription opioids. 

“At a time where we have a national crisis, at a time where we have models some of which are here in New Jersey that we know work.  We should be funding those models and expanding those lessons learned,” New Jersey US Senator Cory Booker said. He’s calling for federal funding to create alternative pain management programs in hospital emergency departments nationwide.

A 17-month investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board points to the train engineer’s undiagnosed sleep apnea as the probable cause of the crash.  US Senator Cory Booker says future incidents can be avoided if personnel are screened and treated for the disorder.

“And those people that work hard, and commute daily should be able to rest, they should be able to sleep on that train with confidence that we are doing everything necessary to keep them safe.”

Governor-elect Phil Murphy says the Gateway Tunnel project is one of his administration’s top priorities, and it will take co-operation between state and federal government to get it done.

“It’s a game changer for New Jersey.  It’s a game changer for New York.  We want to unlock those keys and get that up, funded, and running.”

US Senator Bob Menendez rues what he calls a lost opportunity to build a new Hudson River rail tunnel under current Republican Governor Chris Christie.

Governor Christie is advancing Newark’s bid to win Amazon’s competition to determine where the internet retailer will build its second headquarters.

Christie says Newark represents the heart-and-soul of what Amazon is seeking.

“Newark is a growing technology hub. They are a growing education for the state of New Jersey. Unparalleled transportation options and unique cultural options in this city as well.”

It’s been over two decades since plundering graduation rates, and overall poor performance forced the state to seize control of Newark Public Schools.  In recent years, a combination of state and city led initiatives changed education in Brick City.  New Jersey Governor Chris Christie calls the return of local control a watershed moment.

“In the last six years, the accomplishments of this system are very impressive.  The job is certainly not complete, but we’ve made real progress at times in the face of real emotional opposition.”

Nearly 800,000 people have been approved for the DACA program nationwide since 2012.

If your landlord knew your apartment infested with rodents and roaches, moldy from water leaks and did little to nothing about it, would you pay your rent?  That was the question for one Newark resident when the bathroom ceiling of her apartment collapsed.

“We’re living worse than squatters.  It’s not fair to us, it’s not fair to our kids, it’s not fair to our neighbors, it’s not right.”

Because of poor living conditions, Yanira Cortes started withholding payments to her landlord.  She’s been in and out of court for several years.

LGBT advocates in New Jersey joined U.S. Senator Cory Booker at an event in Asbury Park to protest President Trump's push to ban transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military.

Transgender Kearny resident Jennifer Long is a retired Army Sergeant Major who served in the military for 30 years including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. She says forcing transgender service members out of the military could have a serious impact.

United States Senators Cory Booker of New Jersey and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts are introducing legislation to help female inmates deal with the challenges of being imprisoned.

Senator Cory Booker wants a commitment from the Trump Administration to support federal funding for improvements to railways between New York and New Jersey.  Funding for the Gateway Tunnel Project could be compromised under President Trump’s proposed federal budget.

New Jersey state and federal elected officials were at a Jewish Community Center in Tenafly to condemn the recent string of antisemitic acts across the country.

Governor Chris Christie says New Jersey law enforcement is aggressively perusing a recent spike in bias crimes.

“We now have $10,000 rewards available for any leads that lead us to the violation of bias crimes.  And anyone in this state who commits that type of crime will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and sent to prison,” Christie said.

Ken Gibson was elected as Newark’s first African American mayor in 1970.  A transitional period for Newark; the city was in recovery from the 67’ rebellion.

The Hahne & Co. building on Broad St. in Newark has reopened its doors.  It’s transformed into much more than a department store.

Many Newarkers remember it as the ‘Hahne’s’ building.  The 21st century version will house the city’s first Whole Foods, a restaurant from celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, and housing units both luxury and affordable.  Mayor Ras Baraka says 65 of those will be affordable housing units.

Democratic Ambassador Phil Murphy received some pretty good news regarding his campaign for governor.  

New Jersey US Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker are the latest to endorse the democrat for governor. 

"Two extraordinary United States Senators, Cory Booker and Bob Menendez.  As good as it gets in this country.  As good as any partners you can hope to have.  I’m humbled by your endorsement today gentleman.  I’m looking forward to getting out in the hustings and rolling up our sleeves together,” Murphy said.
