Introspection is the new recording from guitarist Roni Ben-Hur and bassist Harvie S.  Along with drummer Tim Horner, they share an emotional bond, with a call and response that puts us in the sidecar as they explore.

The fluid nature of their rapport, honed together over the years, sharpens this album’s appeal. But it’s also in the range of compositions on the album — by Billy Strayhorn, George Shearing, Kenny Dorham, Tadd Dameron, Joe Henderson and Thelonious Monk.

There are also Brazilian numbers by Baden Powell and Ary Barroso, two composers Roni is celebrating live with his Brazilian Quartet featuring Joyce Moreno through Sunday at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in New York.

The Introspection Trio also plays the Jazz Forum in Tarrytown on Aug. 12 and Midday Jazz at St. Peter’s Church on Aug. 22. Here is the trio in our studio, performing the Kenny Dorham composition "Asiatic Raes."

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
