WBGO news anchor Glenn Crespo passed away this morning in Elizabeth, NJ following complications from a heart attack he suffered last week. Glenn was part of many WBGO News awards and received a national PRNDI Award for his evening newscasts on this public radio station. He also anchored many morning newscasts with Gary Walker since 2012.
Glenn Crespo's dedication, loyalty, professionalism and humor made him one of the most beloved and respected news anchors in the New York City market.
Glenn graduated from St. John's University and began his radio career with WNEW News in 1977 spending the next 16 years with the news department anchoring news on the New York Giants Football Network. Next he became news director at WXPS in Hawthorn, New York followed by free-lance work at WFAS in Westchester, WHUD in Peekskill, WJUX in Dumont, New Jersey, WBLS sports and then becoming news director again at WVNJ in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Glenn then worked at Shadow Traffic where he was the morning news anchor for WQCD until 2008. Glenn then worked for The Wall Street Journal Radio division until 2012 then devoting much of his time to WBGO. Glenn was also working for WCBS-AM recently.
Glenn was born and raised in New York City living in Morningside Heights his entire life. He was a big movie buff with a passion and knowledge for Horror and Science Fiction. He was also a life time fan of the New York Yankees.
His wonderful friendly yet authoritative delivery and kind soul will never be forgotten.
The Crespo family will hold a memorial service in the New York area at a later date.
