Radar: Ingrid and Christine Jensen, "Infinitude"

Infinitude CD Cover Art

In the liner notes for "Infinitude", the new recording from sisters Ingrid and Christine Jensen, it's called "Nordicity", an organic description of the trumpeter and saxophonist.  I don't know about all that, but our own beloved and well lived Michael Bourne admires the absolute musical creativity which emerges from a seemingly casual environment. "Infinitude" - the state or quality of being infinite or having no limit. What a gift for the jazz musician, and here, they achieve fliight. With Ben Monder's guitar, bassist Fraser Hollins and drummer Jon Wikan, Ingrid's trumpet and Christine's saxophone explore as you might imagine on the piece "Swirlaround". Instant beauty on "Duo Space" or "Hopes Trail", where the attraction seems like the absence of a trail.

Nordicity. Synchronicity. Whatever the spark, the listener's journey makes you glad you turned your head this way.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
