Murphy Says NJ Poised To Be Comeback Story Of Nation

Governor-elect Murphy speaks at League conference

In one of his first major speeches since winning the election, Governor-elect Phil Murphy told the League of Municipalities conference in Atlantic City that New Jersey is poised to be the comeback story of the nation.

Murphy did not propose any new initiatives. He reemphasized his commitment to improving New Jersey’s economy, funding education, and investing more in the state’s transportation infrastructure.

“New Jersey Transit barely functions. I’m embarrassed by the service that we provide our customers.

Senate President Steve Sweeney is indicating that will change.

“NJ Transit has to be funded properly. It can’t work if you don’t fund it properly. And that’s going to be a top priority of the legislature. That hurts the economy when people can’t get to work on time.”

When Murphy takes office in January it’ll be the first time since 2009 that the state has a Democrat-controlled government.

He says he wants New Jersey to set the national standard for progressive and innovative public policy ideas.

He’s pledging to provide funding for women’s health care and planned parenthood, legalize recreational marijuana, and enact additional gun safety laws.
