The Juilliard Jazz Max Roach Ensemble Performs at WBGO for Jazz Appreciation Month

Apr 9, 2018

The Juilliard Jazz Max Roach Ensemble is one of four student groups at the Juilliard School, and excels under the direction of drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr.

Owens, an alumnus of Juilliard's inaugural jazz program, is also known for his stellar work with Christian McBride and Kurt Elling, among others.

The ensemble currently consists of David Adewumi on trumpet, Alexa Tarantino on alto saxophone, Evan Atwell Harris on tenor saxophone, Rashaan Salaam on trombone, Jake Kelberman on guitar, Micah Thomas on piano, Endea Owens on bass and Dag Markhus on drums.

As part of our Jazz Appreciation Month effort, the group performed four original compositions, as well as one of Horace Silver's gems. Listen for these songs on 88.3 FM, or play them below.
