The Checkout with Josh Jackson

The Checkout - Josh Jackson

The Checkout is an hour-long music magazine hosted by Josh Jackson. The program is also available as a podcast. The multimedia show features what’s new in the New York jazz scene. The Checkout includes a dedicated website www.checkoutjazz.org with on-demand content, including featured new music selections, sessions from the WBGO performance studio, as well as interviews and experiences recorded in the studio or on location throughout the New York area. New York Times music critic, Ben Ratliff, will also join Josh to discuss new releases, reissues, and newly discovered or unearthed music.

The Host

Josh Jackson, host of The Checkout, began his radio career at WWOZ in New Orleans, worked as a production assistant at American Routes, and moved to New York to become the associate producer of Jazz From Lincoln Center with Ed Bradley. Josh joined the WBGO team in 2001 and is currently the station’s Special Projects Producer, blogger-in-chief and an unparalleled enthusiast for modern expressions in jazz. He has been responsible for new media projects such as Living With Music, an online multimedia riff about jazz, and the multi-platform concert series Live at the Village Vanguard, a partnership between WBGO and NPR Music that includes live audio and video streaming via the web, a live radio broadcast, and a live chat where fans of the music interact. Josh has produced award-winning documentaries and more than 250 live concert recordings at WBGO. He is the co-founder of Joyride Media, and a contributor to NPR Music.
