Felix Hernandez
Rhythm Revue Host
Felix Hernandez, born and raised in Philadelphia,
started his radio career in 1979 as a college student, with stops
in Florida and Chicago along the way. Although his first love is
R&B, Felix has worked closely with other musical styles, including
jazz and blues.
Felix premiered Rhythm Revue on WBGO as an offshoot
of a small, self-produced series called Harlem Hit Parade, which
was aired in the mid-1980's by WBGO and a handful of other public
radio stations around the U.S. He also produced BluesStage, an award-winning
live blues series hosted by Ruth Brown and Melvin Van Peebles. The
series, which had a six-year run on NPR, was funded by grants from
the National Endowment for the Arts and the Corporation for Public
Broadcasting.
When he's not spinning R&B, Felix spends time
with his family, waters his extensive CD collection, rides his bike
all over the city, and reads. His favorite recording artists include
Jackie Wilson, the Temptations, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Ruth
Brown, Astor Piazzolla, Rosetta Tharpe, Earl "Fatha" Hines
and the mighty Duke Ellington. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
