SportsJam with Doug Doyle
WBGO's podcast and on-demand feature SportsJam with Doug Doyle is now in its third season and has recently received the Best Sports Award from the New Jersey Associated Press Broadcasters Association. SportsJam takes a unique peak into the sports scene as WBGO's News and Sports Director Doug Doyle talks with a wide variety of guests. Bernie Williams, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jon Faddis, Savion Glover and Jazz 88 host Rhonda Hamilton all agree there's a strong connection between jazz and sports. SportsJam with Doug Doyle can also be found as a free podcast on iTunes.
"The show keeps evolving and it's exciting," says Doyle. "SportsJam aims at drawing people from all walks of life to WBGO." You can hear from sports legends including Kareem, Monte Irvin, Tony Meola and Oksana Baiul, coaches Vivian Stringer and Bob Hurley, broadcasters Dave Popkin, Bill Daughtry, Chris Broussard and Spencer Ross, entertainers Judith Jamison and Jimmy Heath and even broadway star Anthony Rapp of "RENT" fame. Another guest, former boxer Paul Thorn is now singing his way to the top of the Americana charts.
Doug has been covering local sports in New Jersey for more than 25 years. The Pennsylvania State University grad, was a starter on Franklin Regional’s high school baseball and basketball teams in Murrysville, Pennsylvania. His daughter Casey plays goalie for the Wall High School lacrosse team and is a second-degree black belt in karate.
