The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure has been raising funds and awarenesss for breast cancer for 25 years. This year, for the first time, northern New Jersey will take part in the annual race at Essex County's Branch Brook Park. They were out at Newark's PSE&G building signing up registrants.

Their goal is to raise 2.5 million dollars, most of which will go to support programs throughout Essex, Hudson, Bergen, Morris, Warren, Passaic, Sussex, Union and Somerset Counties so that those with little or no insurance can get tested and treated for breast cancer. Nancy Alfonso, local race Director explains what makes people particiapte in the race,

"Most everyone does it because someone in their life has been touched by breast cancer and they know that they can make a difference by participating in this Race For The Cure."

The event which will be May 4th, already has 5,000 registrants. Honorary Chair and singer Gloria Gaynor will also be on hand to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her hit single "I Will Survive". For more log onto KomenNorthJersey.org.
