BRUCE FRETTS

Bruce FrettsCurrently a senior correspondent at TV Guide, Bruce Fretts has been contributing TV reviews to WBGO Journal since 1999. He first became involved with the station when he pledged to cohost an hour of Morning Jazz with Gary Walker and Doug Doyle.

Fretts has reviewed a wide variety of programs for WBGO, including documentaries about jazz legends Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Brubeck, and Billie Holiday as well as biopics of Mickey Mantle, Gilda Radner, and Martin Luther King Jr.

A native of Arlington, Va., Fretts became interested in jazz while taking a course on the music's history at the University of Virginia. After graduation, he moved to New York City and worked as an assistant editor for American Heritage magazine.

Before coming to TV Guide in 2003, Fretts worked as a critic at Entertainment Weekly whose staff he joined in 1991. He penned hundreds of articles for the magazine, including cover stories on Friends, NYPD Blue, and Harrison Ford. He authored the publication's first book, The Entertainment Weekly Seinfeld Companion, and also worked for EW's website (www.ew.com), having posted weekly columns about The West Wing, Survivor, and The Sopranos.

A die-hard Mets fan, Fretts has written articles for Major League Baseball's official All-Star Game and World Series programs.
