2 – 5 PM
Relax and enjoy a summer afternoon of music and art in the sculpture garden.
Hear tenor saxophonist John Ellis and his band, Double-Wide, featuring Jason Marsalis on drums, Marcus Rojas on tuba, and Brian Charette on organ. One of jazz music’s brightest stars, John Ellis recently released a new album, Dance Like There's No Tomorrow, a New Orleans-inspired collection which has garnered rave reviews from the likes of The New York Times, Downbeat and All About Jazz.
The program also includes gallery talks on the special exhibition, From the Village to Vogue: The Modernist Jewelry of Art Smith, a celebration of the work of an acclaimed Brooklyn-based African American jewelry maker inspired by jazz greats as Duke Ellington. Carolyn Kelly, a jewelry design research expert, leads the talks. WBGO’s Gary Walker hosts.
