Trombone great Steve Turre, perennial poll winner on both trombone and sea shells throughout, is a versatile master whose illustrious career includes work alongside music legends such as Ray Charles, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and Woody Shaw. Turre is also a 30+ year mainstay of the Saturday Night Live Band. On everything from swinging classic bop lines on trombone or conjuring Rahsaan on shells over a deep groove, Steve Turre is a true jazz original. Rolling Stone says, “The jazz world needs more Steve Turres. A powerful technician with a soulful tone and quick wit, Turre is perhaps the leading trombonist of this generation.” His latest record, Colors for the Masters, was called “easily one of Turre’s best releases in years,” by AllAboutJazz.com. Two of his bandmates from the record also appear here: tenor saxophonist Javon Jackson and legendary jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb.
