Chico Mendoza has been playing professionally since the age of sixteen. He is an only child coming from a musical family, which included his Uncle, Charles Singleton, who penned “Spanish Eyes” and “Strangers in the Night”. He plays all percussion instruments, including piano, vibraharp, marimba, xylophone, and many exotic drums from foreign nations. He is an accomplished composer and arranger and has been nominated for a Latin Jazz Grammy Award. He has appeared and or performed with such notables as Tito Puente, George Benson, Ray Barretto, Jon Faddis, Arturo Sndoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Hilton Ruitz, Aretha Franklin, Robert DeNiro, Billy Taylor, Michael Camilo, Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Al Hibbler, Rodney Dangerfield, Cab Calloway, President Lyndon B. Johnson, Governor Thomas Kean, Congressman Bill Bradley, Phil Simms, Dionne Warwick, Cissy Houston, Melba Moore, Machito, Henry Mancini, Mongo Santamaria, Ruben Blades, Alvin Slaughter, and many, many others. He has played on three of the five continents and has received dozens of awards and commendations in the fields of jazz, Latin jazz, gospel, and musical instruction. Chico will be accompanied by Max Morden on trumpet, Ron Olender on alto sax, Tim Givens on bass, Nick Scheuble on congas, and Carlos (Charlie) Torres on timbales.
